PS5: Sony unveils the console's slim design

The rumors were true, Sony has just unveiled the slim model of the PlayStation 5, with a detachable Blu-ray player.

Although already nicknamed the PS5 “Slim” by the fan community on social media, the new PS5 Sony Interactive Entertainment's new model is primarily a smaller version that will replace the current PS5 as soon as the remaining stock is sold. It will be available starting this November in the US at select retailers and on the PlayStation Direct online store, and then in the rest of the world within the next few months.

Sid Shuman, director of PlayStation content communications at Sony Interactive Entertainment, stated:

«"As the holiday season approaches, we are delighted to announce that we are launching a new model of PS5. To meet the evolving needs of gamers, our engineering and design teams collaborated on a new form factor that offers more choice and greater flexibility. The same technical features that make the PS5 the best way to play are packed into a smaller form factor, with a removable Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive and a 1TB SSD for more internal storage. The new PS5 has been reduced in volume by over 301.3T and in weight by 181.3T and 241.3T respectively compared to previous models. There are four separate front panels, with the top section having a glossy finish, while the bottom section remains matte.»
