I was pleasantly surprised by Ready or Not (2019), a small, original, and brutal film blending survival, dark humor, and social satire. Even though Ready or Not sometimes draws inspiration from recent productions (I'm thinking of Get Out for the family setting, and You're Next for the presence of a strong and resourceful heroine), it remains original enough to hold your attention until the end. Moreover, the directors indulged themselves with bloody scenes that would put many horror films to shame. Without going to the extremes of a Vinterberg film, the family as an institution is challenged in Ready or Not. The performance of the beautiful Samara Weaving is astonishing. She never overacts and was fully committed to the project. I can only recommend Ready or Not. And beware if you ever want to join a family…
