This game is empty and 15 years behind the times. While the news of Top Spin's return was fantastic, 2K and Hangard 13 have completely let us down. The game is an empty shell. Zero content: matches against AI, a career mode straight out of the 2000s with absolutely no coherence, ultra-basic/repetitive and very poorly designed, and an online mode for those who pay for a PS+ subscription. As for the game itself, the graphics are worse than on PS3, the player faces are completely botched, the gameplay and animations are copied and pasted from Top Spin 4, the atmosphere during matches is generic, flat, and unexciting, there are no signature moves (except Federer and Williams), the roster is limited and disappointing, there's very little communication from 2K, and only one update every two months just to add a single player and a court. The majority of players have already abandoned the game and moved on to something else. The only two positive things for me are the game's soundtrack in the menus, which is excellent, and the Top Spin 4 gameplay, which remains the only coherent and enjoyable one since 2011. No other tennis game comes close in this regard. Everything stems from the... The 2000s-2010s: the graphics, the career mode, the soundtrack. Since then, sports games have evolved, offering immersive career modes, much more polished graphics, photorealistic faces, more detailed animations, and original and varied game modes. 2K must have gotten the year mixed up; it's 2024, not 2014.

A very disappointing game. As a tennis fan, I was hoping to finally get a really good game after the mediocre, even poor, AO Tennis or Tennis World Tour. Not a chance! As usual, the career mode is incredibly boring (with the purchase of a home or staff), but it will be a necessary step if you want to play online. Why? Because it's simply the only way to improve your player's stats and be competitive, not to mention that you only have access to Masters 1000 or Grand Slam tournaments once you reach a certain level… the developers clearly also forgot to implement a balancing system, which means that if you play online as a beginner, you're likely to face a much stronger opponent. A level 30 player (the maximum level) will be almost certainly unbeatable if you're new to the game. If you find yourself in this situation, the only way to avoid a thrashing is to close the game before the match; there's no system to cancel a match once matchmaking has started. Regarding the online level, some players have already mastered the game, most online opponents have already reached level 30, and adding other abilities makes for unplayable matches. Add to that the unstable servers; I often experienced lag and even disconnections. Graphically, the game is hideous. The faces of the star players are poorly rendered, lacking detail and completely unrealistic; it feels like we're back on the PS3. It gives the impression that the game is a simple port, which is unbelievable in 2024. The roster of players is very limited, although it's likely to expand in the future. Two big names are missing: Nadal and Djokovic, even if it's nice to play as legends like Federer, Agassi, or McEnroe. Add to that the microtransactions, for example, to buy cosmetics—rather ironic in an otherwise ugly game—and there's also an in-game currency. All these flaws suggest a rushed job, done for profit by exploiting the Top Spin license's reputation, a game released unfinished. On the plus side, the gameplay is richer and a bit less scripted than AO or Tennis World Tour, with sliding on clay courts and more animated movements. However, many matches still feel repetitive; it's all about who can hit the hardest, with a lot of back-and-forth, and volleying is quite rare. I'm hesitant to quit: in its current state, I'm not enjoying it much, and it's impossible to know if patches will change the gameplay experience.

Meh. Hello everyone, the training is great, but otherwise, playing alone you can't have real matches; you only get tie-break-style matches. I'm currently at level 16 and frankly, it's getting boring. For the trophy presentation, there's only one scene regardless of the location on the planet, always with the same characters. The developers could have put in a bit more effort. I wouldn't recommend it for solo play.

Fed up with mandatory online play. – 28/02/2025: To date, I've made significant progress in the game (which is extremely repetitive) without yet reaching the world number 1 ranking (though I am 5th). As I feared, the game is incredibly shallow, and you feel like you're constantly doing the same thing by participating in tournament after tournament. By the way, I've played on normal mode from the beginning, which is ridiculously easy: I was dreading my first match against Alcaraz, but it was a complete formality… This could perhaps be fixed by increasing the difficulty. I haven't done any training sessions coached by John McEnroe, so I won't comment on that aspect… except to say that it's not very useful and learning "on the job" is more than enough. The addition of injuries based on fatigue levels was interesting… but I haven't suffered any injuries during a match, only afterward. It's a shame, even though abandoning a match due to injury can be frustrating, I would have appreciated it if it had happened as it does in real life. I haven't completely finished the game (just a few training sessions, for example), but I don't think I will. The disc is back in its box for a long time, I think. In conclusion, I confirm that I strongly advise against buying Top Spin 2K25, which offers nothing of interest compared to the versions on older consoles, and this "deluxe" edition is anything but luxurious: as is most often the case, "deluxe" versions are generally "enriched" with useless digital content that isn't worth the extra cost. And I maintain my aversion to the mandatory network connection and account creation, which only benefits the developer by allowing them to collect personal data and display advertisements for their products when the game is launched (the link to PGA TOUR 2K25 is displayed EVERY TIME the game is opened...). annoying).- 16/01/2025: For the moment I have only played the intro of the game which did not leave me with a different impression than a very old version of Top Spin. It's just a little prettier, without being a graphical revolution: to say it's on PS5, even on PS4 it wouldn't be exceptional. I hadn't read enough reviews and so I discovered, to my great dismay, that it's MANDATORY to be online AND to have created a 2K account to play career mode: pointless and only serves as "spying" by the developer to presumably resell personal data and further monetize their product. In short, technically, it's poor (even though I've barely played the game yet, I don't think it will become more beautiful or playable as I progress) and ethically, it's despicable. I hate this practice and therefore strongly advise against buying this very small game, which is nothing more than a minor graphical update of an old game without any real improvement. Avoid it.

Huge disappointment for this TS episode. A meager roster of players, most of whom are unrecognizable and hideous, a basic career mode almost identical to previous Top Spin games, and a disastrous online experience… no online matchmaking. If you're level 4, for example, you can very often be matched with a level 30, and it's impossible to exit the menu… The gameplay only favors power in all online modes, especially the International Circuit! It's a real horror and quickly becomes uninteresting! Forget about volleying and beautiful tennis… yet the gameplay isn't actually that bad… We have to hope for updates to balance the gameplay, add more players, improve matchmaking, implement an online Elo system, etc… Oh yes, I almost forgot! To play career mode, you have to be connected online, otherwise it's impossible! If the 2K server disconnects, you're out of luck, there's nothing you can do! An absolute disgrace and scandal for the world of video games. I've been waiting 13 years for the return of Top Spin, a real disappointment and a profound disgust.
