Description

Assassin's Creed Shadows The series is transported to a period of upheaval, to the heart of a feudal Japan marked by conflict, fragile alliances, and power struggles. The adventure unfolds in a vast open world, designed to encourage exploration, observation, and a free approach to objectives: silent infiltration, direct action, strategic detours, or a combination of both.

Release date: March 20, 2025

The core of the game lies in its dual gameplay: two protagonists, two identities, two ways of approaching a mission. One embodies precision, stealth, and tactical awareness; the other embodies power, martial mastery, and direct impact. This complementarity gives real rhythm to the progression: some situations reward patience and stealth, while others value battlefield dominance.

Two complementary playing styles

The game features two distinct approaches, designed to vary the gameplay experience and multiply the solutions:

  • Shinobi approach (infiltration) Stealth movement, silent eliminations, use of the environment, flanking maneuvers, distractions, and tools to penetrate protected areas without triggering an alarm. This approach prioritizes anticipation: identifying routes, exploiting verticality, managing light, and choosing the right moment.

  • Samurai approach (combat) More direct confrontations, positioning management, combos, parries/dodges, group control, and an intimidating presence. This approach emphasizes mastery of timing and weapon selection based on the enemy.

The switching between the two characters also serves the narrative: the same event can be experienced from a different angle, with an impact on the way we understand the world, its factions and its stakes.

A living, open world, structured by the seasons and verticality

The feudal Japan of Assassin's Creed Shadows is designed as an adventure playground: villages, castles, shrines, roads, forests, rice paddies, varied terrain, and urban areas combine to create a rich and diverse environment. Movement isn't simply a matter of getting from point A to point B; the journey itself is an integral part of the game. The environment offers opportunities: vantage points for reconnaissance, hidden paths, covered areas for stealth, and rooftops and elevated positions for planning infiltrations or retreating.

Variations in weather and seasons alter the experience of different regions (atmosphere, visibility, traversal, terrain reading). Exploration becomes more organic: the same area can be played differently depending on the time of day, the strategy, or the character used.

Infiltration, espionage and preparation

Shadows emphasizes preparation. Before acting, it's possible to observe, identify threats, locate access points, and choose a plan. Stealth approaches rely on the intelligent use of the environment: entering via a rooftop, skirting a fence, crossing a garden, exploiting a blind spot, neutralizing a key target, and then disappearing before the alert spreads.

This "espionage" aspect blends well with the Assassin's Creed structure: contracts, targets, heavily guarded areas, secondary objectives, and contextual opportunities. The game encourages players to take information seriously, rather than rushing headlong into things.

Combat, equipment and progression

The progression system is based on equipment, skills, and improved gameplay options. As the adventure unfolds, increasing your power isn't just about "hitting harder": it unlocks additional tools, ways to approach locations, defensive/offensive options, and better adaptation to situations.

Equipment influences playstyle: weapons, armor, utility items, and upgrades can all shape how you play. An infiltration approach prioritizes mobility and stealth, while a samurai approach emphasizes impact, resilience, and combat management.

Hideout, league and network

A significant part of the experience revolves around building a network: allies, support, resources, and organization. The game offers a hiding place Customizable and scalable, serving as a base of operations. This space provides a breather between missions: preparing, adjusting equipment, strengthening certain options, and developing a "league" to support progress.

This dimension reinforces the “shadow war” aspect: the player is not just an isolated fighter, but an actor who structures his capacity for action.

🤩 Great game, a really pleasant surprise. Honestly, I'm not disappointed at all with my purchase. I love Assassin's Creed Shadows. Yes, there are a few bugs here and there (that little Ubisoft signature 😅), but nothing that really spoils the experience. Visually, the game is magnificent, the environments are incredibly immersive. The combat is really fun, whether you're playing as Naoe or Yasuke, and the stealth is well thought out, even if the AI sometimes has its slightly... quirky moments. The story isn't revolutionary, but it's very easy to follow, without being boring. One important point: the game is really dark, especially at night or in dimly lit areas. At times, it's completely pitch black. I had to turn the brightness up almost to the maximum to see properly in dark areas. It's a bit of a shame, so keep that in mind. Another piece of advice: don't do what you did in the older AC games and cut through mountains to go straight to the objective. Bad idea! You end up weaving between trees, blocked by rocks, or sliding because the slope is too steep. 👉 Sticking to the roads is clearly the best option. I've seen videos where YouTubers are really going on about it, and honestly, I don't really understand. The game isn't perfect, but it's far from terrible. If you like the Assassin's Creed franchise, this one is definitely worth it. I recommend it without hesitation.

A magnificent Assassin's Creed set in feudal Japan. An excellent Assassin's Creed game. A stunning immersion in feudal Japan. The graphics are simply sublime. The storytelling and level design have been meticulously crafted and executed. The side quests are all unique and engaging. The gameplay is top-notch, with new moves for Naoe and Yasuke. The music is captivating and further immerses the character in the world of feudal Japan. I absolutely do not regret this purchase. If you love the world of Japan, you will not be disappointed. Ubisoft has succeeded brilliantly. Bravo!!! (I'm furious to see some of the reviews on other sites. I'm addressing this particularly to those who gave it 0/20 on JVC; I find it shameful! How can anyone give it 0/20? It's unheard of. Not liking it is one thing, and in that case, give it 10/20, but not 0! It's deliberately bashing a game, it's pathetic.)

Assassin's Creed Shadows is a very good game that I absolutely don't regret buying. The graphics are excellent; you're truly immersed in the world it unveils, with incredible immersion that does justice to the era it depicts. Regarding the controversy about the internet connection required for installation, I think the criticism is exaggerated. While a connection is necessary for installation, after that, there's no obligation to stay online to play single-player. It's 2025, and the vast majority of players have internet access, so I don't see the problem. On the downside, the camera can sometimes glitch, which can be frustrating, but other than that, nothing really bothersome so far. A very good experience that I highly recommend!
