It is by a laconic statement on the E3 website The organizers have hammered the final nail into the coffin of the Californian video game show. And if this 2023 edition is cancelled, it is undoubtedly the event itself that disappears.
We'd sensed it coming for a few days, but it's now a reality, with Nintendo, Microsoft, and Ubisoft all withdrawing. The major Californian video game event, the legendary E3 that made millions of gamers dream in its heyday, will not take place this year. The show's homepage displays this succinct message:« Organizer ReedPop has announced that E3 will not take place as planned this June: all events, both in-person and online, are cancelled. ReedPop and the ESA will work together to consider the future of E3.«In short, if the 2023 edition is already consigned to oblivion, it's a safe bet that the 2021 edition of E3 was the last. Because yes, E3 2022 was also cancelled at the time.
Some good times… And some not so good.
Between bombshell announcements, misleading trailers, surprise guests, monumental fails broadcast worldwide, and cosplay gatherings, E3 has certainly managed to generate buzz since its first edition in 1995. At that event, the announcement of the price of the first PlayStation (only 299 $ when the competition was charging around 400 $) caused a minor earthquake and almost sealed the fate of the Sega Saturn. The publishers' conferences have often been an opportunity to whet gamers' appetites with stunning trailers, as was the case for... Half-Life 2 in 2003. Hopes sometimes dashed by trailers far too impressive to be honest, as was the case with that of KillZone 2 in 2005 which had nothing to do with the final result.
The various stages of E3 also hosted major figures from the industry, such as Shigeru Miyamoto armed with the mythical Hylian shield and the Master Sword of Legend of Zelda during the presentation of Twilight Princess in 2004… A much more controlled intervention from the Nintendo legend than the announcement of Wii Music during which his performance of the Mario theme on the Wii Remote turned into a fiasco. Much more recently, Keanu Reeves was invited by CD Projekt Red to a conference concerning Cyberpunk 2077.
A slow descent into hell.
Despite occasional flashes of brilliance, E3 has never truly recaptured the enthusiasm of its early days and the fervor of the 2000s and 2010s. With the rise of the internet and online conferences, manufacturers have often preferred to manage their own communications by organizing their own showcases at key times of the year, rather than just in mid-June. The industry giants (Nintendo, Microsoft – with the Xbox brand – and Sony – with PlayStation –) have gradually abandoned the halls of the Los Angeles Convention Center, and the COVID-19 pandemic in 2019 and 2020 only exacerbated the situation. We may have just witnessed the final blow to E3 with the statement from ReedPop and the ESA.

This might make some of you smile, but for several years, especially during my professional life, I had eliminated this type of planner from my office supplies, as everything was managed on my PC with Outlook. Upon retirement, I continued down this progressive path, without considering that the security measures for my personal computer data were significantly less effective at home than at the office. And it was a nasty hard drive crash that finally brought down my "modern" way of managing my calendar. After the irreparable machine failure, I realized I had lost all my appointments for the year and my reminders. That's how I decided to go back to the good old-fashioned paper planner by ordering this "Quo Vadis" (which I already loved before the digital age). Eager to get my hands on a paper planner, I visited all the bookstores in my area, but my search was fruitless, either because the product was no longer available or because it was being sold at a very prohibitive price (without any discount, even though the first quarter of 2016 had passed). So I checked Amazon and found this planner for half the price I'd found in bookstores (a discount had been applied). No problems with the order, free shipping, and a very reasonable delivery time. The product arrived in perfect condition in its protective bubble wrap envelope. PLEASE NOTE: this model is not A4 size. It's 24 cm wide by 30 cm high, which is 3 cm wider, potentially causing storage issues for those with bags designed for 21 x 29.7 cm products. Personally, I appreciate the 24 cm wide format because it makes the week easier to read, and there are two columns of notes available for each week (one on each page). Upon receiving it, after copying all my appointments and reminders (those I remembered), everything fell into place. The planner is ready to go, and so am I. It goes everywhere with me in my backpack. I'm very happy with it.

This planner is really excellent and very practical. Its large format makes it easy to read, and in addition to the pages dedicated to organizing the week, it includes calendars in various formats, useful information, and maps of different places around the world, which can sometimes be quite handy. I recommend this planner without hesitation.
