Overclocking your Nintendo Switch: a good idea?

On his YouTube channel, Geekerwan reveals an impressive operation carried out on a Nintendo Switch !
At first glance, we might think it's a simple overclocking of the CPU and GPU cores, but the work done is much more complex. We start with the installation of a bootloader, in order to add the Android OS, then a Linux OS, which allows the installation of Steam and access to the frequencies of the components present in the console.

As a reminder, the Nintendo console is based on an NVIDIA Tegra X1 chip (4 ARM Cortex-A57 cores and 4 ARM Cortex-A53 cores), the GPU part comes from the Maxwell architecture (GTX 750 to 980 Ti), with 256 Cuda Cores.

Geekerwan It pushes the CPU to 2.3 GHz, compared to the base 1.0 GHz, and the GPU to 1267 MHz, compared to 768 MHz. In docked mode, the memory speed increases from 1600 to 2133 MHz. In synthetic benchmarks, the improvement is undeniable, even if the Tegra chip still lags behind a Snapdragon 865, and in demanding games, the experience is choppy or not at all, with averages below 30 fps. GTA 5 is below 10 fps, a real ordeal…
