You play as an emissary tasked by the Scorched Queen with reclaiming the wild lands and unearthing lost riches for the Incandescent City, the last bastion of civilization against the Cataclysm that destroyed the old world. Unlike most city-building and survival games where you play within a single city, in Against the Storm you must build a vast network of thriving settlements, populated by different fantasy races, each with its own specializations and needs.

The wilderness hides many dangers, and relentless storms will crush your population. If your settlements fall, the expedition might end… but not the game. Against the Storm is a roguelite city-building game, meaning you'll retain the resources, upgrades, and experience from your previous expeditions each time you start again.

• Foxes, beavers, and lizards fight alongside humans and harpies for survival. Use each species' strengths to balance their diverse needs, from shelter and food preferences to tastes in luxury and leisure. Will you craft raincoats, brew beer, and bake pies to boost morale amidst the forest's oppressive hostility, or will you prioritize one species' needs to better serve the Scorched Queen?
• Discover a city-building game enhanced by the replayability of a roguelite. Build and manage numerous settlements across a vast world map, while collecting valuable meta-progression resources to improve the Scorched City. As a proper imperious monarch, the Scorched Queen demands constant progress from you, while recurring Calamities are an unavoidable threat to your settlements. Manage your reputation to ensure the prosperity of one settlement before founding another, expanding ever further. Face unique challenges in different biomes and prepare for the inevitable destruction of everything but the Scorched City itself. How will you optimize each cycle to maximize the benefits not only for the City, but also for your career as an emissary?
• With hundreds of gameplay modifiers and six distinct biomes, each city location presents unique challenges, even for the most ingenious emissary. Adapt your strategy to the changing weather and experiment with different lists of building blueprints and perks that can either help your society thrive or lead to its downfall. Will you pursue additional objectives and attempt to find the treasures of the perilous forest, or will you play it safe and focus on keeping your settlements running smoothly? Meanwhile, you never know what the trader will bring next year, and while the forest is certainly rich in treasures and resources, it also harbors its share of ancient threats.
